She loves me, she loves me not

The Marguerite brooch that all Danes know and love has over time, almost become a national symbol in line with the Dannebrog (the Danish flag).

The brooch saw the light of day in connection with Queen Margrethe’s christening in 1940, when, among others, the jewellery company Michelsen produced thousands of brooches. The population adopted the motif and brooch as a symbol of resistance to the Nazi occupation of the country at the time. The brooch has since been produced in hundreds of thousands, and by several companies. So many, that one could say with reasonable certainty that almost every family in Denmark has one.
