Since 2018 Sofia Björkman, Helena Lehtinen, Pernille Mouritzen and I have been doing research, looking at crafts and the communal tale rooted in materials and aesthetics within the nordic contries. We are question the importance of aesthetics and materials in a construction of identity, sense of belonging and understanding of ourselves. How is our interconnected and history traceable today in material form? We are looking for the answers in traditional crafts, materials, landscapes etc.
Things and materials carry within them a subtle story that moves us as human beings, be that as makers or users of these products. Often objects carry visual markers in the form of a direct narrative such as a
decoration, at other times the story within is in the direct perception and association of a material to a landscape, folklore, myths, religion, social position, work, traditions, cultural institutions etc.
We have done a lot of traveling to gather impressions. This is not a scientific projekt, it is intuitive and emotional. We come from a background in jewelry, and our mutual starting point is the body.
