We have investigated traditional and contemporary working methods, materials and techniques that have been commonly used in the Nordic countries in an attempt to map what divides us and what we have in common historically and culturally. With the jewelry series Bedrock Stories, I have investigated the meaning and feeling of belonging, how we take color from the places we live and how we are shaped by nature in these places.
Wherever we went, we found traces of the people who have lived there. Their stories have become part of the places, they have become Bedrock stories.
GEUS in Copenhagen has kindly supported me with rock samples and their scientific knowledge of the bedrocks in the Nordic countries.
Lines of Latitude and Longitude – was a collaborative project by Mette Saabye (DK), Pernille Mouritzen (DK), Helena Lehtinen (FI) and Sofia Björkman (SE). The project was support by the Nordic Culture Fund.
