Mette Saabye at Beth Uriel, Cape Town SA.
In 2016, I developed the products Flowerpots & Lightpots out of recycled plastic – a part of the project ”Trasholicious”, where I collaborated with Mads Bille Bloch and a group of young men from the boys’ home Beth Uriel in Cape Town, South Africa.
The project served several purposes, including teaching the participants technical skills in relation to electronics and blacksmithing, actively taking responsibility for the increasing pollution of plastic in nature and creating a source of income for themselves and the running of the boys’ home.
Flowerpots & Lightpots has been presented at international events and exhibitions, including: Change the System at Boijmans Van Beuningen, in the Netherlands and Brescia Design Festival in Italy.
The project is supported by The Agency for Culture and Palaces and The Danish Art Workshops.
